There is No Limit to Growth

South Korea | 2023 Samsung DreamClass

Point on 'South Korea' in world map

At Samsung Dream Class, South Korean teenagers who lack educational opportunities are getting all the support they need from local university students. University students conduct mentoring sessions on a variety of subjects including Korean linguistics, English speaking, and coding, as well as guidance on how to study more effectively and build a career.

Both mentors and mentees devote immense passion to teaching, guiding, and learning: the university-student mentors through creating quality class content, and the younger students soak in the information.

Check out the journey of mentors, growing with their mentees.

Winning a hundred victories in a hundred battles

Hello, I am Samsung Dream Class mentor Jeon Yuri. In June, when my mentees had their exams in the first semester, I created a teaching material called “Winning a hundred victories in a hundred battles”. Here, mentees would describe their study methods and areas for improvement, while mentors including myself offered advice on how to study and prepare for exams and analyzed test patterns for each subject.

Unlike the first semester where students simply said “I attend my school lessons without special study methods” or “I only remember the scores; never the questions”, in the second semester the mentees responded differently. They filled their activity sheets with rich content, including their own study methods and exam question analysis. I realized through my mentees that limitless growth is possible even in a short amount of time.

Classes full of fun for the mentor and mentee

Hello, I am Kim Gayeon, Samsung Dream Class mentor. Last year, I created a lesson-planning system that reexamined the previous year as a mentor. I shared the same tool with my fellow mentors, and every month we were able to look back on the last year – through journals or photos – and discuss what kind of a year we hope to see ahead.

Using my well-organized record of past experiences as a reference, I could develop an improved plan for mentoring. With more fun, creative teaching materials and ideas, my mentees and I would enjoy the time studying together even more than before. Other mentors also found my lesson plans useful, which was rewarding. I hope everyone as a mentor and a mentee has a great experience at Samsung Dream Class.
