The energy crisis in France, much like the rest of the world, poses a significant threat to both the environment and the economy. Rising energy costs and the resultant carbon emissions are pressing issues that demand immediate and innovative ideas. This is not just a technical problem but a societal one, affecting everyday lives and the future of our planet.

In the face of an escalating energy crisis, Inès and Zakaria from Moulin des Prés Middle School in Paris have risen to the challenge. These 9th graders, feeling the weight of environmental concerns and the urgent need for sustainable ideas, decided to embark on a project that combines their creativity and scientific knowledge to make a tangible impact.

Human Powered Energy

In response to the energy crisis, students developed an innovative device: a portable mini charger powered by human body movement. This device, based on the principles of electromagnetic induction, aims to provide a sustainable and practical idea to energy consumption, particularly in the realm of portable electronics.

The creation of this device was a meticulous process. Over four months, dedicating an hour each week, the students followed a structured design thinking process. They also engaged in Mini-Entreprise© pedagogy, provided by the partner organization, Entreprendre Pour Apprendre France. This hands-on approach allowed the students to experience the entrepreneurial journey, from ideation to execution, ensuring their idea was both innovative and feasible.
