Empowering Sustainability and Learning

Young people today are no strangers to the wonders of technology, and Samsung Solve for Tomorrow encourages them to harness that technology and create innovative solutions for their communities. In 2023, Samsung hosted its inaugural Solve for Tomorrow competition in Indonesia, achieving great success with many remarkable ideas from participating students.

The challenge posed to students was to devise solutions addressing societal problems in education and sustainability. A total of 309 outstanding ideas were submitted from across the nation and 15 finalist teams advanced to present their solutions to the esteemed jury. Sustaining the earth with technology

The grand prize of the first Samsung Solve for Tomorrow in Indonesia went to the Dasher team from a secondary school in Depok of West Java called Madrasah TechnoNatura. In response to the pressing need for sustainable and eco-friendly fuel sources in the energy industry, the students developed an innovative solution titled ‘Biomass Gasification’. The solution accurately assessed the hydrogen content in syngas from biomass pellets to produce hydrogen as an alternative source of fuel.

Another solution towards achieving a sustainable environment came from the Qalam Malaq team at Negeri 78 High School in Jakarta. Their solution, the ‘Microalgae Aquarium’, aimed to combat air pollution in urban areas. Using microalgae technology, the plants effectively converted carbon dioxide into oxygen, outperforming trees by 5 times. Additionally, these microalgae would be able to regenerate autonomously without intermediaries enhancing their chances of survival.

The next step in learning experience

The RGB team, a group of students from Negeri 8 High School in Jakarta, presented their innovative project ‘Keyword RGB,’ an AI-integrated learning application that incorporates gamification. “We aimed to address the issue of one-directional learning from teachers and make the studying experience more intuitive and fun for our peers,” explained the team. Keyword RGB app helps students understand their lessons better by providing subject summaries in a student-friendly tone and familiarizes users with effective notetaking methods. Project Keyword RGB showcased the importance of fostering understanding from teachers to students, thereby establishing deeper connections.

One of the judges evaluating the finalists in the program’s last stage remarked, “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow highlights the awareness our younger generation possesses regarding critical community issues.” Through the invaluable guidance of Solve for Tomorrow and the collaborative efforts rooted in the students’ diligence, these young minds are poised to effectuate even more significant and positive changes in the world.
