Students Pace Themselves for the Hackathon

Indonesia | 2023 Samsung Innovation Campus

Point on 'Indonesia' in world map

Samsung Innovation Campus Indonesia is an educational program that plays a pivotal role in nurturing the country’s young talents and addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the technology sector.

With the widespread use of AI and IoT technologies in various industries from manufacturing, energy, and fisheries to even finance and e-commerce, Samsung Innovation Campus recognizes the importance of equipping youth with future-proof skills. The program aims to enhance young people’s competitiveness in the era of rapid digitalization by ensuring students obtain in-demand skills.

Coaching from the sidelines

The Innovation Hackathon phase of Samsung Innovation Campus was designed to nurture empathy in youth and foster their problem-solving skills, both of which are crucial in the job market. Participants are encouraged to identify common issues and devise IoT-based solutions to address them. The program guides the participants through each stage of the process, from Problem Definition and Exploration to Ideation and Experimentation, Prototyping and Imagination, and finally, Pitching and Storytelling. This comprehensive approach enables the participants to transform their ideas into tangible prototypes.

“The primary objective of this training is to build a strong foundation of skills that will help the participants pursue their future careers,” says one of the developers of the program. Throughout the Hackathon, participants receive constant guidance from industry professionals who help them identify everyday problems and design solutions that have the potential to become fully-fledged products.

Crossing the finish line

To complement their coding and programming activities using Python, participants gain practical experience working with microcontroller devices like the Raspberry Pi 4, as well as various sensor tools. By the end of the training, participants are expected to have developed functional IoT product prototypes, thereby strengthening their capabilities as developers.

Samsung Innovation Campus clearly demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to youth education. “We hope that the participants can be equipped with future-proof skills that will give them a competitive edge in the digital era and are more than competent to satisfy the industry’s demands,” said Ennita, Head of Corporate Citizenship Samsung Electronics Indonesia.
