Libya — More than 150 students from across Libya have begun a new learning journey in artificial intelligence and programming through Samsung Innovation Campus, which has launched in the country for the first time.
To mark the beginning of the program, members of the first cohort came together at an official launch event in Tripoli. The event gave students an opportunity to learn more about the journey ahead, meet fellow participants and share what they hope to achieve through the program.
For many, it was the first step into a new learning experience that will combine technical knowledge with practical exploration. It was also a chance to see AI not simply as an emerging technology, but as a skill they can begin applying to their studies, future careers and ideas.
Meet the First Cohort
The launch event brought together students and young people with backgrounds and interests ranging from computer engineering and computer science to AI and data science. While their individual goals differ, they share a sense that AI is becoming increasingly relevant to the way people learn, work and solve problems.
At the event, attendees spoke about why they were interested in Samsung Innovation Campus and what they hoped to gain from the experience.
“I think this is a great opportunity for students and recent graduates, especially because it focuses on AI, which is gaining momentum in Libya,” said Imad Alhusumi.
Participants also expressed their excitement about learning alongside one another and applying their new skills through practical projects and presentations.
“We will work together on an AI project and present it. I’m very excited about it,” said Sima Al-Qalyani.
For some students, the program may support an upcoming graduation project. For others, it represents an opportunity to explore a future career in technology or better understand how AI could be applied in different fields. Together, their expectations reflect what this first Samsung Innovation Campus in Libya represents: a place to learn, experiment and build confidence with emerging technology.
Learning Through Practice
Following the launch event, participants began a learning journey that combines live virtual instructor-led sessions with self-paced study. This structure allows them to follow shared lessons while continuing to learn and practice at their own pace.
The program brings together knowledge and practical application. With guidance from experts and specialists, participants will develop applied projects that allow them to use what they have learned and explore how AI and programming can respond to real-world challenges.
Students who successfully complete the program requirements will receive a certificate from Samsung, recognizing the skills and experience they have gained throughout the course.
Beyond learning technical concepts, the program gives participants opportunities to look at data, break down problems, collaborate with others and turn ideas into projects. These experiences can help them understand not only how technology works, but also how they might use it in their own studies, careers and communities.
From Agreement to Action
The launch of Samsung Innovation Campus in Libya followed a cooperation agreement between Samsung and the Office of the State Minister for Digital Economy and Artificial Intelligence.
The agreement was signed at the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Tripoli, bringing together government officials, academic leaders and Samsung representatives in support of expanding AI and digital learning opportunities for young people in Libya.
The agreement established the foundation for the program. The launch event then brought that commitment to life by introducing the first cohort and marking the beginning of their learning journey.
The initiative reflects a shared commitment to helping young people prepare for a changing digital landscape. By combining structured education, practical projects and opportunities for collaboration, the program aims to make AI learning more accessible and relevant to students’ futures.
Building Skills for What Comes Next
The first cohort is now focused on building strong foundations. Over the course of the program, students will strengthen their understanding of AI and programming, practice new skills and explore how technology can be applied to challenges they care about.
The projects, questions and ideas that emerge will take shape as the program progresses. What begins with learning a new concept could develop into a graduation project, a new career interest or an idea that responds to a challenge in a student’s school, workplace or community.
For the more than 150 students taking part, this program is more than an introduction to technology. It is an opportunity to build confidence, discover new interests and begin imagining what they may be able to create with AI.
Their learning journey is only beginning, but the first step has now been taken.
