Blue Elephant

Cyber-violence prevention education for adolescents

Five companies of Samsung’s electronics affiliates (Samsung Electronics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDI, Samsung SDS, Samsung Display) and two companies of Samsung’s bio-related affiliates (Samsung Biologics, Samsung Bioepis) launched Blue Elephant, a prevention-based education program aiming to solve the social challenge of adolescent cyber violence. The program will be operated for 10 years (2020-2029) with the Blue Tree Foundation (youth violence prevention NGO), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the Korean National Police Agency, and Community Chest of Korea.

Team-based prevention education for students

Using its character, Blue Elephant’s prevention education is designed under the storytelling concept of exploring the “cyber jungle”, a cyber space full of danger and temptation. The program focuses on 6 prosocial values—honesty, promise, forgiveness, responsibility, consideration, and possession. Blue Elephant’s education consists of 8 sessions: 2 pre-learning sessions, 4 on-site school learning sessions, and 2 post-learning sessions.

Through “Preventive Education Going to Schools” targeting 17 cities and provinces, Blue Elephant endeavors to build a preventive culture at schools and form a safe cyber environment. Additionally, we collaborate with Professor Jong-Hyo Park's team at Konkuk University to analyze educational changes. The Blue Elephant prevention education improved prosocial competencies and cyberbullying coping efficacy, increasing defensive actions by 34.3% and reducing perpetration by 14.3%. Results are published annually on the Blue Elephant website.

Blue Elephant’s reliable assistant

Samsung employees take part in the journey of making a safer cyber world. Employees who completed the professional training (10 hours) can work as assistants, helping the smooth delivery of Blue Elephant’s prevention education. In 2023, 65 Samsung employees, in 2024, 75, and in 2025, 95 are joining forces with Blue Elephant.

Employees who joined in the program shared their heartwarming experiences, saying that it was a meaningful activity helping children live in a world without violence. “One of the great things of Blue Elephant’s cyberbullying prevention education is that students can learn through discussion. I hope more students can get the education and live in a world without cyber violence.” -A Samsung employee who volunteered as an assistant
