Samsung DreamClass

Supporting students’ dream-seeking journey

Samsung Dream Class is a youth education program that provides middle school students with inadequate educational opportunities with three-dimensional career, job, and learning mentoring from university students, Samsung employees, and experts. To ensure that insufficient conditions do not become a gap in dreams, the program introduces an online/offline hybrid education system, offering various learning experiences through online/visit mentoring, winter/spring camps, and Samsung affiliate experience events. In addition to basic learning, it provides career and job education to help students form their career aspirations, as well as future competency education, which will become a basic skill in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Education to prepare for the dream

By collaborating with universities and professional organizations, Samsung DreamClass provides three curricula—career exploration, future capability training, and basic subject learning—to help youth prepare for their dreams. In career exploration course, youth can design their career through career/job aptitude test and work experience activities. Future capability training helps youth equip with communication/global/numeracy/software skills required for Industry 4.0. Basic subject learning course provides personalized learning for English and mathematics to students.

Systematic mentoring from various mentors

Samsung DreamClass provides diverse mentoring—from college students to Samsung employees and even learning experts. One college student mentor is in charge of 10 middle school students, offering one-on-one coaching both online and offline every week. Samsung employees introduce their jobs and operate clubs to help students experience diverse opportunities and achievements. In addition, Samsung employees offer employment-related know-hows and counseling to college student mentors. For specialized areas including career/IT/reading, outside experts provide in-depth mentoring to students.

Face-to-face events for active learning

During the summer vacation, Samsung DreamClass conducts a summer camp, targeting students across the country. Students can meet their mentors face to face to build rapport and supplement their learning. In winter vacation, students can apply for Samsung DreamClass’s winter camp to take personalized educational course and set their learning strategy. During the semester, Samsung DreamClass opens a Samsung office visit event, enabling students to find interests and widen their job perspectives.

A Truly memorable experience, Samsung DreamClass

Jaerim Choi, who had perfect attendance for Samsung DreamClass throughout 3 years of her middle school years, entered Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages and was selected as a dream scholarship student. In 2018, she entered SKKU as a philosophy major, and participated in Samsung DreamClass again, this time as a college student mentor. Not only doing her best as a mentor, she studied hard at school and prepared for Open Competitive Examination for grade 5 at the same time. In 2022, she passed the exam and was appointed as a grade 5 civil servant. After the appointment, Jaerim said, “The help of Samsung DreamClass from my middle school years till today was the foundation of my success.” She added, “Samsung DreamClass is an invaluable experience for my growth, and I hope to work at the Ministry of Health and Welfare to help others.”

From a college student mentor to a Samsung employee

Taejeong Kim, who joined in Samsung DreamClass as a college student mentor at Yongsan Middle School, went to the school once again after he became a Samsung employee. He said, “It feels so special as I meet middle school students and college students as an employee mentor.” When asked what he want to give to Samsung DreamClass mentees, he said the courage that “I can do it” is the one. Taejeong looked back on his past, saying, “I didn’t like studying that much when I was a student, but I found a motivation to study: a dream of becoming an engineer. That led me here today.” He said, “Just saying ‘You should study’ will only sound like nitpicking in students’ ears. I believe telling them ‘I tried it and it was really good, so maybe you should try it too’ might resonate with them more.” He added, “I hope students can find their own shiny dreams through this mentoring.”

A Samsung employee from Samsung DreamClass 1st cohort

Eunjin Jeong was a middle school senior when she participated in the 1st cohort of Samsung DreamClass. 8 years later, she became a Samsung Electronics employee. When she was in middle school, she couldn’t attend a cram school for her studies due to her father’s business difficulties. She said, “If I didn’t have Samsung DreamClass when I was in middle school, I wouldn’t be able to become who I am today. I was desperate, and Samsung DreamClass was a priceless learning opportunity to me.” At that time, Eunjin met two KAIST mentors in Samsung DreamClass. With the help of her mentors and her hard work, she graduated science high school in only two years, and entered CAU as a four-year scholarship student. She said, “Samsung DreamClass mentor activity was the first thing I did during my first summer vacation as a college student. I wanted to help students who feel insecure about their future due to their family circumstances.”
