Intermediate Digital Skills Development for the Future

In today's world where all industries are undergoing digital transformation, digital skills encompassing everything from the use of various IT devices to the ability to utilize diverse digital platforms are gaining attention as essential competencies that future generations must acquire. Samsung Electronics is providing intermediate digital skills development education program through various youth-focused CSR programs, empowering youth to develop digital skills and pursue their dreams as future talents in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Let’s explore the stories of students from all around the world who are taking steps towards a brighter future through Samsung’s intermediate digital skills development program.

Samsung Dream Class, Guiding Youth on their Journey to Discover their Dreams

Since 2012, Samsung Dream Class has been providing educational programs for middle school students facing underprivileged educational backgrounds in Korea. The program provides education necessary for academic success and future skills development, including career exploration activities to help students discover their talents and aspirations. Participants can benefit from a variety of initiatives, such as personalized online mentoring by university student mentors through an online learning platform, on-site mentoring, career lectures by Samsung employees, club activities, winter and summer camps, and experiential learning opportunities.

As of January 2024, Samsung Dream Class program has reached a cumulative total of 99,382 middle school student mentees and 25,222 university student mentors. Over its 10-year of continuous operation, Dream Class is creating a virtuous cycle , with former mentees returning as university students or employee mentors. Sunjae Eom, an employee from Samsung Electronics DS Division who was once a Dream Class mentee and now conducts ‘Samsung Employee Mentoring Lectures,’ shared that "what I learned from Dream Class has become a valuable asset in my life."

A student who participated as a mentee in Dream Class for three years of middle school shared, “Through Dream Class, which accompanied me during my middle school years, I was able to solidify my career path and improve my academic grades. I’m deeply grateful to Samsung employees who delivered the special lectures and university student mentors who always offered warm advice.” Another student who participated as a mentee expressed, “I hadn’t thought deeply about my dreams before, but through the program, I developed a clear aspiration to become an elementary school teacher. I learned about various professions through the employee mentor lectures and received great help with my schoolwork through online learning.”

Stepping Stone of Hope Strengthens Digital Skills for Care-Leaving Youth’s Independence

Another program running in Korea called ‘Stepping Stone of Hope’ provides digital skills training to help care-leaving youth prepare for the job market. As of last year, a total of 27,065 youths have benefited from the program’s support for preparing and experiencing independent living . Especially, recently, the program has intensified its focus on enhancing the employment capabilities of young people preparing for independence.

Earlier this year, students participating in Stepping Stone of Hope 2.0 job training attended an employment camp for two days. The camp included a variety of programs such as intermediate digital skills training which is essential for practical work and employment consulting. On the first day, there were lectures on analyzing recruitment trends and creating strategies, as well as hands-on practice on writing job application documents and resumes. On the second day, interview simulations were conducted.

Lee Minjun (pseudonym), a participant in the employment camp, said, "It was like a refreshing rain in a drought." He added, "As a GED graduate who had never received any employment-related consulting before, this training was extremely helpful as I prepared for actual job interviews." After completing two months of IT service technician job training at Samsung Electronics' Partner Collaboration Academy, Min-jun shared, "After deciding to pursue a career in IT, I spent six months studying a developer course, and I learned a lot of knowledge that I can integrate with my studies." He concluded, "It was highly valuable education and a worthwhile experience."
