Can you tell us about yourself and the project you developed, starting from Samsung Innovation Campus journey to where it is today?
I'm Ahmet Furkan Bayram, a recent graduate of Karadeniz Technical University's Computer Engineering department. I specialize in deep learning technologies. Joining Samsung Innovation Campus program was a crucial step for expanding my knowledge and gaining hands-on experience in artificial intelligence (AI). During the program, I developed Mammo-Des AI, a tool to assist healthcare professionals in diagnosing breast cancer using an AI-based recommendation system. With the support of the Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) 1812 Entrepreneurship program, I founded my startup company, which focuses on AI solutions in healthcare. The project has also received the Seal of Excellence from TÜBİTAK.
What was the motivation behind developing this project?
The motivation for developing Mammo-Des was the significance of early diagnosis in breast cancer. One out of every eight women worldwide develops breast cancer, and early detection impacts treatment. Current diagnostic methods often involve delays due to extensive analysis and human interpretation. Mammo-Des aims to provide faster and more precise recommendations to support doctors, minimizing time consumption and enhancing the diagnostic process.
How did Samsung Innovation Campus contribute to the development of Mammo-Des?
Samsung Innovation Campus played a crucial role in developing Mammo-Des by helping me acquire new skills and deepen existing ones. The training sessions on data analysis and AI algorithms enhanced my technical abilities. The program also taught me the importance of aligning healthcare solutions with sustainable development goals, helping me understand how AI projects can create positive societal impacts. It also provided me with project management, entrepreneurship, and presentation skills to effectively communicate the value of Mammo-Des to stakeholders.
What are your next goals?
My next goal is to commercialize Mammo-Des and integrate it into hospitals. In the long run, I aim to establish my company as a leader in AI-based healthcare solutions, expanding beyond breast cancer to other areas of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
What are your recommendations for young students who want to participate in Samsung Innovation Campus?
I recommend focusing on identifying social challenges that can be addressed through technology. It's essential to understand and utilize emerging technologies, but the main goal should be to create meaningful solutions with a positive impact. Seek networking opportunities and engage with experienced professionals to gain insights and explore collaborations. Participating in educational programs like Samsung Innovation Campus provides valuable skills, knowledge, and connections to enhance your career and entrepreneurial aspirations.
As a young entrepreneur, what do you foresee about the future of artificial intelligence?
AI has immense potential for transforming industries like healthcare, particularly analyzing data quickly and accurately to improve diagnostics and patient outcomes. It is crucial to develop AI solutions ethically, with transparency, data security, and respect for privacy. As we innovate in healthcare, we must focus on sustainable solutions that prioritize societal benefits.
