Collaboration is key to overcoming challenges and achieving success. Samsung Solve for Tomorrow brings the best out of teamwork among passionate learners around the world. This global CSR initiative fosters creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and practical applications of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), helping the next generation lead a brighter future.

Since 2023, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow in Africa offered new opportunities for students to address the challenges they face in their own communities through Design Thinking workshops and mentoring. In a unique partnership with the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), the program empowers youth to harness new career paths and bring their innovations to life.

There Are No winners, Only Learners

Though the scale of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow initially felt intimidating for Nomfundo Manqele, a student from Adams College in South Africa, she found that the experience was incredibly fulfilling at the same time. She admitted, “Even though we encountered many challenges in this journey, we somehow found a way to persevere.” She added, “There are no winners or losers, only learners.”

Phume Unarine, a group leader from Thengwe High School, noted that Samsung Solve for Tomorrow was one of the most interesting and unique experiences for students and teachers alike. “I learned that a great leader is uplifted by enthusiastic group members.” She added, “My advice is to take a leap of faith. Samsung Solve for Tomorrow will help you discover more knowledge and new experiences that you won’t be able to get anywhere else.”

Taking the Final Honors

Mandisa Schiceka High School team took the honors as the crowned finalist of this year’s Samsung Solve for Tomorrow in Africa. The team identified food security as the main challenge, as their township is predominantly a mining environment which affects the soil, air, and water. To address this challenge, they successfully developed an automated hydroponic structure that grows food without using soil.

Lenhle Khoza, a manager at Samsung South Africa who oversaw this year’s program, remarked, “The youth is the key to Africa’s development potential, and it is our ambition to spread the program to more countries on the continent.” She continued to highlight the importance of supporting youth: “Now more than ever, we need to guide young learners on the value of STEM skills to solve the greatest issues impacting our communities.” Samsung will continue to drive positive change and unlock the potential of the world’s youth.
