Samsung Smart School 2020

Intellectually challenged are the proud employees of Bear.Better

I'm Jung Jin-young and I’m in charge of job training at Bear.Better. Our company is a social enterprise that has been stepping up together with people with disabilities. Our employees may have some physical difficulties, but I can tell you that these 200 young people are more passionate than anybody else. They can produce a range of products - from name cards, printed materials to bread, coffee and flowers. They can also be a deliveryman, shipping packages by subway, and they can sometimes be a barista. We are offering specifically tailored job training system for each and one of our workers so that they can rise from their difficulties and become a proud member of the society.

Being a slow-learner doesn’t mean you don’t have the ability to do it. They have infinite possibilities awaiting in front of them and they certainly have the potential to achieve more things. Those with developmental challenges have the capability to learn more and achieve more than they can now. To guide them to their full potential, Samsung Smart School is working at the forefront to allow them to learn whenever and wherever they can.

A vivid job training through VR simulations

Our company was selected as Samsung Smart Schools program with an aim to digitalize a job training process for people with developmental disabilities. Using Odyssey VR, a VR device developed by Samsung Electronics, our company and Samsung Electronics has been collaborating to develop various job training contents since 2018. Practicing Delivery in Virtual Space is one of the job training contents we are creating. Based on Bear.Better’s delivery guideline, this program will provide interactive simulation for every situations our employees may encounter during work. I can’t wait to see the results the professional gamification experts and Samsung mentors will create.

Repetition is especially important for those who may be a bit slow to learn new things. Before, we couldn’t train our employees without professional instructors, but this VR device allows us to provide necessary training effectively anytime and anywhere. I wish that more efficiency in job training will lead to more recruitment opportunities for the developmentally challenged.

VR training program has not only impacted our employees. It will be widely used in special needs schools and welfare centers around the world to help more people unroll their potential.

Being part of Samsung Smart School, I learned that the purpose of technological advancement lies in making the world a better place. As Smart School did with our employees, Smart School will open up new worlds for so many people around the globe.
