How can technology foster a more inclusive world? With 23,878 young participants from 369 schools, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Next Gen 2024 across the UK and Ireland inspired students to unleash their creativity and develop innovative solutions to address societal challenges.
Through a combination of interactive video lessons, Design Thinking resources, and career exploration tools, the program empowered students to think critically about technology's role in shaping a better future. By providing valuable resources for both students and teachers, Samsung has helped spark the curiosity of young minds and inspired them to explore the vast potential of technology and innovation.
Innovating for Inclusivity & Safety
In the 11-13 age category, the winners included Millie, whose project "My Bear" aims to promote cultural awareness and combat hate by rewarding young people for learning about different cultures. Millie's innovative idea fosters empathy and understanding in a fun, engaging way. Another standout project, Team Safety Bangle from Croydon High School, developed a wearable safety device designed to protect girls and women when traveling alone. The safety bangle tracks the wearer’s location and includes an emergency alert feature, ensuring help is just a click away.
The runner-up teams also showcased impressive solutions. Team Asthmatic Series One from Somerhill School created a smartwatch that tracks asthma stats and can call medical services during an attack, demonstrating the power of wearable tech in managing health conditions. Team Speak4Me from Thornhill College developed a smart device app that enables mute and non-verbal children to communicate by using images and descriptive text. This inclusive technology empowers children with speech disabilities, giving them a voice in their daily lives. These projects highlight the incredible creativity and problem-solving skills of young innovators, showing how technology can address pressing real-world challenges.
