From Samsung Dream Class to Samsung Family

February 18 of 2019 is the day Samsung announced its new corporate citizenship vision, “Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People”. On this memorable day, a young woman with a special story joined the Samsung family. This is the story of Eunjin Jung, who was one of the first beneficiaries of Samsung Dream Class.

Since 2012, Samsung Dream Class has been offering free English and mathematics tutoring to junior high students from underprivileged backgrounds, aiming to bridge the educational inequality. Eunjin was one of the middle school students that joined the program in its first year.

For Eunjin, receiving private tutoring was something she had never considered, especially given the financial difficulties her family was experiencing. But her encounter with the after-school Dream Class program started to change her life. She was able to receive free English and math lessons from a graduate student at KAIST, which is one of the highest-ranking universities in Korea.

A student becomes a teacher

Later, Eunjin was able to graduate early from her high school and was admitted into Chung-Ang University with a full scholarship. She credits her success to Dream Class. It was all the more meaningful to her that she returned to the program as a teacher to share her experience and knowledge to students.

Paying it forward – is what she is doing. She wants to repay the good deed and kindness she had received and pass them on to the younger generation.

A girl who chose to push through her adversities and refused to give up on her academic passion returned to school as a teacher to guide young students through their own challenges. Now, her inspirational journey continues here at Samsung where she works in System Large-Scale Integration. She is now exploring new areas on Application Processors.

Drawing on the knowledge and expertise she has gained in Samsung, she feels more inclined to share what she has learned. Eunjin says she will continue to give back, motivated by how she has been inspired throughout her years in Samsung Dream Class.
